The rubber on the original wheels hardens with age.
Typical symptoms are vibrations and an annoying whirring noise when the Beogram is running and playing.
In severe cases, the hardened wheel will slip on the motor pulley, causing uneven playback with audible wow and/or flutter – or no platter rotation at all.
No chemicals will provide a lasting repair, and grinding the wheel down will not soften the rubber (and the wheel would end up a wrong size).
If the Beogram was out of use for a long time, the original wheel will have taken shape from the concentrated and constant pressing against the motor pulley causing uneven running and repeated clonk-clonk-clonk sounds because of the deformation to the rubber.
This deformation will have hardened and settled into the rubber material and it will never fall back to original shape again.

The cure is a new wheel.

This is a complete wheel as shown.

Early Beograms had closed disc wheels, later Beograms had wheels with ten holes.
Both original wheels had B&O part# 2804012 despite minor differences.
This new idler wheel replaces both original OEM types.
